The International Conference of Central Asia and the Caspian basin for Disarmament Affairs will be held in Turkmenistan June 24. Representative delegations of the region, including the Azerbaijani Republic will attend the international forum, aimed at promoting the global process of disarmament, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Azerbaijan told Trend.

The initiative on organizing this event in Turkmenistan has been announced by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov in his speech at the 64-th session of UN General Assembly.

The Turkmen President said that there is no place for relapses of bloc confrontation in modern system of international relations.

Now neutral Turkmenistan has become a recognized center for peace, seeking to use its status of permanent and positive neutrality as well as the existing experience of political and diplomatic peacemaking activity in the interest of the entire world community, a positive influence on the course and nature of the processes in Central Asia and Caspian Sea region, the embassy said.

The Turkmen President since the first days of his election in 2007 to a high state post has begun to implement the fundamental principles emanating from the positive neutrality of Turkmenistan, to actively promote peace and stability in the region, the report said.

The United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia was established in Ashgabat in December 2007 at the proposal of the Turkmen President. Just a year later - December 19, 2008, the 63-rd Session of UN General Assembly adopted a resolution initiated by the Turkmen leader on the security of energy transit.

In September 2009, from the rostrum of the 64-th session of UN General Assembly the Turkmen president voiced an initiative to establish an expert group to prepare recommendations to work out the international legal document for the transit of energy resources taking into account the proposals of stakeholders, as well as several suggestions on the issues of water use in Central Asia and the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov's foreign political initiaitves find understanding and full support from the international community. A striking evidence of this is that Turkmenistan has been elected vice-chairman of the UN General Assembly twice, the statement said.
