The Sumgait City Executive Power appealed to the Azerbaijani interior ministry to ensure the safety of higher and secondary educational institutions.
The ministry will hold relevant activities in connection with the received applications, Ministry's Security Department Head, Major-General Police Madat Guliyev told Trend.
He said the ministry did not received new appeals on the safety of educational institutions in Baku.
The issue of security at the educational institutions became urgent after the tragic incident at a university city. Twenty nine-year-old Farda Gadirov began shooting in the second building of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy April 30 2009. About 12 people were killed, 13 - injured. Gadirov was surrounded by the police and committed suicide.
Guliyev said the leadership of about 40 universities and secondary schools in Baku fully guaranteed the security.
Earlier Education Minister Misir Mardanov said the special security services will provide safety in secondary and higher educational institutions of the republic in the new academic year.
"I can certify the parents that the state guarantees the safety of their children. Security will be provided in both public and private educational institutions," Mardanov said.
