A high-ranking official of the Georgian Ministry of Defense has been arrested in the Pankisi Gorge as a result of a special operation. According to the Kakheti Information Center, the official, Soso Guzarauli, is suspected of arms trafficking.
During a search of Guzarauli's house, weapons were seized.
But police failed to detain another suspect in the case, former officer Batirishvili, who managed to escape.
The Kakheti Information Center was unable to reach the Georgian Ministry of Defence for comment concerning Guzarauli's arrest.
"Guzarauli had a friend here. He is also a former military man. He was an officer. People say that he sold weapons. We came by cars, but failed to catch him. He disappeared," Hangoshvili said.
The Georgian Prosecutor General's Office stated that Guzarauli was arrested by Defence Ministry personnel. So, the Attorney General's Office has no relation to this case.
