"Uzbekistan has a modern, small in number, mobile and well-trained national army capable to effectively resolve the tactical and strategic objectives to ensure the security, territorial integrity and inviolability of its borders, to protect the peaceful life of our people," Uzbek President and Chief of the Uzbek Armed Forces Islam Karimov said in his message on the Day of Defenders of the Motherland celebrated in Uzbekistan on Jan.14, the 19th anniversary of the Armed Forces.
Karimov stressed that based on the defense doctrine and the long-term comprehensive program of reform and modernization, a new control system of the Armed Forces was established to meet modern needs and requirements of a possible theater of warfare in the region, and the power of the army, as well as military capability and the ability to repel any aggressor attempting to invade the country, increased.
The President expressed gratitude to all military personnel - privates and sergeants, officers and generals all, who today are in service in the Armed Forces, adequately fulfilling its noble and responsible duty to protect the homeland.
Recently, upon the presidential decree a big group of soldiers has been awarded national awards - honorary titles, decorations and medals.
