Kazakhstan attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation among the Turkic peoples and the revival of general spiritual values, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
"The Turkic world is a golden bridge connecting our cultural heritage; we have common roots, history, language and culture. We must use our heritage for creative purposes," states the president's greeting, read aloud by the Kazakh Parliamentary speaker at the TurkPA meeting.
The second meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries (TurkPA) was held in Astana on April 27-28. At this meeting the chairmanship in the Assembly was transferred to Kazakhstan from Azerbaijan, which headed the organization since spring 2010 when the first constituent meeting of the Assembly was held.
The President said that the Turkic Council TURKSOY, Turkic Academy, as well as TurkPA create opportunities for further approximation of brotherly Turkic peoples.

"The Assembly carries out great work on international cooperation, enhancing regional and international integration processes," Nazarbayev said.
TurkPA includes Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. The Assembly's goal is to achieve unity of Turkic-speaking countries, discuss common issues and take decisions at the legislative level.

President Nazarbayev initiated the establishment of the Assembly. He made this proposal at the Eighth Summit of Turkic-Speaking Countries in Turkey in November 2006.
