Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and President of the Confederation, Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Micheline Calmy-Rey discussed the questions of intensifying the mediating role of Switzerland in the Georgian-Russian relations at a meeting on Sunday at the presidential palace in Tbilisi, a source at the Georgian Presidential Administration told Trend.

The main topic of the talks was the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The sides noted that after the break of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Russia, Switzerland has been playing the role of mediator and this role should be strengthened.

Calmy-Rey will be in Georgia for two days and hold a series of meetings with officials of the country.
