Lithuanian Health Minister to visit Azerbaijan

Lithuanian Minister of Health Raimondas Sukys will visit Baku.

The minister will attend the session of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO) to be held September 12 in the Azerbaijani capital, Lithuanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Kestutis Kudzmanas told Trend.

During the visit, Suky will hold meetings at the Azerbaijani Health Ministry, will get acquainted with the country's health system.

The session, which will bring together ministers of health of the 53 European countries will discuss topics related to the use of new achievement in the health care system, the adoption of strategy for fighting tuberculosis and the proper use of antibiotics.

In addition, within the framework of the Baku session the Government of Azerbaijan and the WHO European Regional Office will sign a two-year agreement.

Azerbaijan became a member of the WHO in 1992.

The WHO Regional Director for Europe Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab visited the country in early March 2011 over holding of an international event here.

During her visit, a memorandum of understanding in connection with the WHO Regional Office for Europe's forthcoming session in Baku was signed.

In addition, the Regional Director held meetings with the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers and various UN agencies represented in the country, and visited the exemplary medical care facilities.
