Opposition in Azerbaijan may create new union
Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 16 / Trend E. Mehdiyev /
The issue of creating a new opposition union was discussed by the Azerbaijani Green Party, Citizen and Development Party and Liberal Party on Thursday.
The Karabakh political bloc, which includes the opposition Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) and the opposition Umid party, has sent a letter to opposition parties. The letter stresses the importance of unifying the opposition, Green Party Chairman Mais Gulaliyev told Trend on Thursday.
Gulaliyev expressed his attitude toward the issue, underscoring the three parties are unlikely to join the union.
"We have repeatedly held meetings with the bloc," he said. "The unification models did not correspond to our interests."
Gulaliyev said the proposed union does not ensure the equal participation of all of the parties.
"If one party can put itself above the others, then we do not want to join," he said.
