Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 23 / Trend E. Mehdiyev /

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov addressed the Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking states in Bishkek, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told media today.

Khalafov said that the Turkic states established cooperation in many areas and drew attention to the fact that the document which they plan to sign will contribute to this cooperation, Abdullayev added.

The appearance of independent Turkic states caused a new level of cooperation between them, Khalafov said.

He drew attention to the fact that the summit held in Nakhchivan in 2009 has resulted in establishing the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking countries. He stressed the importance of this organisation in preserving and protecting the common values of Turkic states.

He also highlighted the importance of Azerbaijani-Turkish cooperation, citing the Trans Anatolian project (TANAP) as an example.

He also said that the issue of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity must not be considered only in the context of Azerbaijan's security. It must be considered in context of security of whole Europe.

Khalafov added that Azerbaijan has made a significant contribution to the cooperation between the Turkic states. He emphasised the presidential decree on the establishment of the foundation of Turkish culture and heritage.
