The processes taking place in the region were the main topic of discussion at the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov with the delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi.
The sides also discussed bilateral relations as well as the summit of Non-Aligned Movement.
Elmar Mammadyarov noted the importance of relations between the two countries, adding that these relations have an impact on the overall situation in the region, press service of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan reported.
The minister said that the fact of occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia has a negative influence in the region, also said how important is the influence of international organizations and states to the Armenians, for end of their occupation policy.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister also said that all countries, including Armenia, must respect decisions of the UN.
Mammadyarov also paid attention to the issue of the arrested Azerbaijani poets. He noted that Azerbaijani people and government seriously concerns on the issue, also adding that he hoped for an early positive deciding of this question.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said, his country attaches great importance to relations with Azerbaijan and respect its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Iranian delegation also met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov.
The meeting focused on bilateral issues and prospects of development.
Khalafov expressed appreciation Araghchi for his interview by the relationship between Azerbaijan and Iran, which he had previously made in Iran.
He noted the importance of the specific steps that will contribute to the development of relations between the two countries. According to him, the fact that the influence of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran to the overall situation in the region should not be in doubt.
Khalafov also noted the importance of mutual respect, non-interference in countries internal affairs, the fundamental principle of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States, and said that the founder of this rate in the country is the national leader Heydar Aliyev.
The reason that Armenia remains outside all regional projects, is its expansionist policy and this is the main obstacle to the development of the region, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan said.
Khalafov noted that the Azerbaijani people sad after disaster that took place in Iran. Araghchi, expressing satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan, thanked him for the humanitarian assistance provided in response to the earthquake in Iran.
Seyyed Abbas Araghchi also noted his country's interest in developing relations with Azerbaijan, adding that Iran respects the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and considers Armenia as occupant country.
