Issue of the arrest of Azerbaijani poets Farid Hussein and Shahriyar Hajizadeh on trumped-up charges was the subject of serious discussion at a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov.

Issue of the arrest of Azerbaijani poets Farid Hussein and Shahriyar Hajizadeh on trumped-up charges was the subject of serious discussion at a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov.

As Khalafov told Trend on Saturday, it was declared to the Iranian side of inadmissible bringing Azerbaijani citizens unfounded and unproven allegations.

Khalafov brought to the Iranian side, that this issue does serious damage to bilateral relations and existing relations between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Iran. Before the Iranian side was categorically questioned the immediate release of the arrested citizens of Azerbaijan. Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan also stressed that these flimsy charges do not fit into the context of bilateral Azerbaijani-Iranian relations.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran agreed to the fact that this issue is an irritant in bilateral relations, and said that the situation of arrested citizens of Azerbaijan to find a solution soon.

Azerbaijani poets Farid Hussein and Shahriyar Hajizadeh went to Iran to take part in the festival of poetry in Tabriz and were arrested on May 2.
