Azerbaijan sends note of protest to Russia

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept.19 / Trend /

Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry and Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov received him, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Trend on Tuesday.

At the meeting Khalafov expressed a sharp protest against member of the State Council and the State Duma of Russia Vladimir Zhirinovsky's irresponsible call to terrorism and crimes against the Azerbaijani people, which provokes stirring up of ethnic hatred, made by him at the protest action against pardoning of Ramil Safarov. The protest action, which was permitted by the Moscow Mayor's Office and organized by "Russian-Armenian Union", was held on Sept.14.

Khalafov also said that this irresponsible call cast a shadow on the existing cooperation and friendly relations between the two countries. It was emphasized that such statements damages Russia's mediatory mission as co-chair country of the OSCE Minsk Group in the negotiations on the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Khalafov expressed hope that Zhirinovsky's irresponsible statement will be appropriately weighed by Russian governmental structures.

In conclusion, Azerbaijan's note of protest was handed over to Russian Ambassador.
