The summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization has today started at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku.

The summit was attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as high-ranking representatives of the OIC member states.

President Ilham Aliyev welcomed the heads of state and guests.

The state anthem of Azerbaijan was performed.

The meeting was opened by premier of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

ECO presidency passed to Azerbaijan from Turkey.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev addressed the meeting.

Then, an agenda of the 12th summit of Economic Cooperation Organization has been adopted.

Then President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chairman of the Senate of Uzbek Supreme Assembly Ilgizar Sabirov, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Annamuhammed Gochiev, Minister of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan Askar Zhumagaliev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Erlan Abdildayev, Trade and Industry minister of Saudi Arabia Tawfiq al-Rabea and Secretary General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States Halil Akinci.

The summit adopted the ECO 2012 Baku Declaration, awarded prizes in various fields.

It was agreed that the next ECO summit will be held in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad.

The Economic Cooperation Organization is a regional intergovernmental economic body established in 1985 by the countries of Central Asia and the Middle East and is the successor of the Regional Cooperation for Development which acted on the basis of the Charter - the Izmir Treaty, signed by three founding countries - Iran, Pakistan and Turkey on March 12, 1977.
