Around 3000 U.S citizens temporarily residing in Azerbaijan will be able to take part in the U.S. presidential elections, the U.S. Embassy in Baku told Trend today.

Around 3000 U.S citizens temporarily residing in Azerbaijan will be able to take part in the U.S. presidential elections, the U.S. Embassy in Baku told Trend today.

U.S. citizens living abroad have the opportunity to take part in the presidential elections of the country, by sending an electronic request to get an absentee ballot, the embassy said.

Some U.S. citizens have the opportunity to return the filled in absentee ballot, by sending it by e-mail as an attachment or by visiting the secured Internet portal, the campaign reference materials distributed by U.S. State Department said.

According to the State Department, around 6.3 million U.S citizens live in more than 160 world countries.

The 57th U.S. presidential elections will start on Nov. 6, and after the voting, the board of electors will name the U.S new President and Vice President. The newly-elected president will be inaugurated on January 20, 2013.

Incumbent President Barack Obama was nominated as a candidate from the Democratic Party for a second term. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is the candidate from the Republican Party.
