As a result of a rapid growth of military production, within ten years Turkey has become a major exporter of military equipment, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, speaking at the presentation of the first locally produced tank Altay, TRT Haber channel said on Thursday.
According to Erdogan, Turkey also intends to produce local military helicopters, ships and other equipment.
He also expressed hope that the first tank of local production Altay will be used to provide stability and peace in the region.
Turkey is not going to be at war with anyone, but in case of a threat to the security Turkey will take every opportunity to prevent it.
Some 50 military instructors were involved in the production of this tank. After testing the tank will be used in the Turkish army.
In recent years the Turkish military-industrial company has been continuing to produce domestic defense products.
Earlier it was reported that the Turkish military-industrial company Aselsan will produce the so-called mobile outposts.
Mobile outposts are designed for quick installation in the sitees, where an active struggle is lead against militants of terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party. They can be quickly delivered and assembled on site and carry appropriate equipment. The first samples of mobile outposts have been successfully tested.
