Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili believes in the development of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region after the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.
"This road will connect us with Europe and it is then a straight road from Tbilisi to London through Turkey," the Georgian president said at a meeting with the local population in Akhalkalaki.
"This railway will increase trade turnover between Europe and Asia, as this will be the shortest route and all of this will have an impact on every resident of the region where the Georgians and Armenians live side by side," he said.
President Saakashvili visited school No.3 in Akhalkalaki where he spoke with the students and focused on aspects of the country's recent history. He also visited an Armenian church in Akhalkalaki and attended a service.
