President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev ordered to solve the situation over 'grabbed' lands in the capital.

"At anytime and everywhere, capital land is a very important economic asset to attract investment. A lot of people acquired land for a song and now are doing nothing. They are waiting for a chance to resell. I instructed either to introduce high taxes on 'grabbed' and unused lands or to return them to the state property. If you acquired them, build them up. Therefore I am instructing Sagintayev and Kelimbetov to turn back to my order and solve the situation with unused land," Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a meeting on the further development of the capital.

He stated that according to the prosecutor general's office, 503 parcels with the total area of over 10,000 Ha are not being developed in the capital.

"If this is true, then this should be solved," Nazarbayev said.

The president also announced today that contractors are owing to akimats 75 billion tenge, and some of them have not fulfilled their obligations for over three years.

"It turns out that no one cares about public assets, or interests of the country. 17 billion tenge has been spent on buy-outs of land during the last three years, but akimats has been buying the lands out at prices which differed 10 fold. All because of there being no single approach developed at the akimat level, so land buy-out transparency has not been ensured,' the President said.
