Azerbaijan, Baku, May 1 / Trend, E. Mehdiyev /

The single opposition candidate issue must be removed from the agenda, chairman of the Azerbaijani Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu told Trend today.

"The reason is that they do not want this," he said. "Even those who say that a "single candidate" is required are insincere as they understand that they will not get their way."

He added that this issue does not make sense in terms of time. The opinion of some forces that say "we want a single candidate" or "want a broad coalition of opposition" is just an excuse directed towards society.

"Some people opposed the idea and now behave as if they support it," he said. "This is nothing but attempts to evade responsibility. An idea of a single opposition candidate was to be realized 1.5 - 2 years ago."

"Today, the opposition leaders have enough contradictions," he said. "Each of them has their own goals."

"For example, someone has already announced the nomination of the party," he said. "It is easier to resolve these issues before the announcement of the candidacy, rather than after the announcement. They expressed the view that let all nominate their candidates, conduct certain operations and then choose a single candidate. This is ridiculous and wrong."
