Iran’s law enforcement authorities approve two Azerbaijani citizens’ detention

Law enforcement authorities of Iran verbally confirmed the detention of two citizens of Azerbaijan, the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Tabriz told Trend.

The Azerbaijan Consulate is continuing to investigate the information released by Iranian media about the detention of a citizen of Azerbaijan, research fellow of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), orientalist Khalida Khalid and her assistant Shamakh in Iran.

The Consulate General sent a formal request to the relevant bodies of Iran on this issue.

The research fellow of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (NASA), orientalist Khalida Khalid and her assistant named Shamakh were detained in Tabriz on Tuesday by officers of the Ministry of Information, Security and Intelligence of Iran, Iranian media reported before. Currently their location is unknown.

The Institute of Literature of ANAS confirmed that these people work at there.

Deputy Director of the Institute of Literature of ANAS Maharram Gasimli confirmed the information that junior research fellow of the Institute Khalida Khalid was arrested in Iran.

According to him, Khalid left the country on April 26 without permission of the Institute's administration and without issuing a business trip visa, he said.
