Azerbaijan not received notice of citizens’ arrest in Iran

Azerbaijan has not yet received an official notification on the arrest of two of its citizens in Iran, official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elman Abdullayev told Trend on Monday.

"Azerbaijan has not yet received an official notification from Iran on the arrest of two of its citizens, research fellow of the Institute of Literature after Nizami of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), scientist-orientalist Khalid Khalida and her assistant Shamhal Huseynov, by law enforcement agencies of this country," Abdullayev said.

According to him, there is also no official confirmation of the information published in Iranian media about the release of Shamkhal Huseynov.

Research Fellow of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami, scientist-orientalist Khalid Khalid and her assistant Shamhal Huseynov were arrested by officers of the Ministry of Information, Security and Intelligence of Iran in Tabriz on Tuesday, Iranian media reported before.

The Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Tabriz immediately sent a note to the Iranian Foreign Ministry in connection with the detention of citizens of Azerbaijan in this country.

In the note submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, the Consulate General of Azerbaijan demanded the clarification of details of the detention of the Azerbaijani citizens and to provide information on their location as soon as possible.

Some media recently published information about Shamkhal Huseynov's release with reference to his relatives.
