Azerbaijan intends to develop cooperation with Afghanistan in all spheres, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Pakistan and Afghanistan Dashgin Shikarov said at a meeting with the chairman of the National Assembly of Afghanistan Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi.
During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of bilateral relations between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan reported.
Ambassador Dashgin Shikarov briefed the meeting about domestic and foreign policy, economic reforms, strategic projects and social programmes in Azerbaijan.
Further, providing details about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and the Khojaly genocide, the Ambassador expressed gratitude for the support by the other party of Azerbaijan's position in Afghanistan's parliament during discussions on the issue of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan in May 2012.
In turn, the chairman of the parliament thanked Azerbaijan for supporting the peace process in Afghanistan.
According to him, Azerbaijan's participation in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), active contribution in the Istanbul process and financial support for Afghanistan are the steps in this direction.
The chairman of the National Assembly noted the importance of developing relations between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Afghanistan and stressed that Afghanistan fully supports the position of Azerbaijan in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
Then the ambassador met with the Minister of Economy of Afghanistan Abdul Hadi Argandival. Noting that Azerbaijan has extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, Dashgin Shikarov said it would be helpful to use the experience of Azerbaijani specialists in the exploitation of fields in Afghanistan.
During the visit, the ambassador also met with Azerbaijani peacekeepers serving in the Turkish platoon near Kabul. During the meeting, the Turkish commander of the platoon Major General Ali Reza Kuchu praised the service of Azerbaijani peacekeepers.
