Top official: Final decision on oil transportation between Azerbaijan and Russia not yet made
Azerbaijan, Baku, May 17 / Trend, I.Izzet /
The final decision on oil transportation between Azerbaijan and Russia has not yet been made, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Political Analysis and Information Provision Department Head Elnur Aslanov told journalists on Friday.
"Azerbaijani press slightly dramatizes the situation. Each state acts in terms of its own economic profitability. Negotiations on this issue were held before as well, and views were expressed," Aslanov said.
He noted that the oil transportation will continue until the end of the year, as the sides inform each other six months in advance.
"We and the Russian side, of course, will have the opportunity to express a final position based on results of the negotiations. Expressing opinions, which can complicate the situation, is wrong. The final decision on this is yet to be made," Aslanov said.
The Russian government terminated an agreement on transportation of Azerbaijani oil through the territory of the Russian Federation, signed between the two countries on Jan.18, 1996.
