President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today received Gabor Iklody, NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges.
The Head of State praised the Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation.
Recalling his visit to Brussels and the visit by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev noted the significance of discussions during those trips in terms of boosting cooperation.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his confidence that the Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation would continue in the future as well.
He touched upon the Azerbaijani servicemen's successful participation in international peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan, adding his country might help restore peace and stability in Afghanistan by contributing to development of social areas like education and exchange of experience.
NATO's Assistant Secretary General in his turn stressed the importance of NATO-CCEE Partnership Conference "Emerging Security Challenges: Enhancing Energy Security in the 21st century", which is being held in Baku.
Gabor Iklody said the NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation was effectively developing, and expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for Azerbaijan's successful involvement in international peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan and the country's support of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
The Assistant Secretary General praised Azerbaijan`s intention to contribute to NATO`s mission in Afghanistan after 2014.
The sides also exchanged views on a variety of issues, including energy security, the spread of nuclear weapons and fight against terrorism.
