Turkey will continue to support Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi who was ousted by the military, Turkey's Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bagish said, Anadolu agency reported on Monday.
"President Morsi was the only democratically elected president of Egypt after 70 years of dictatorship. His overthrow means that there are forces that do not want the establishment of democracy in Egypt," Bagish said.
According to the minister, these forces wanted to achieve a repetition of this scenario in Turkey, but they failed.
On July 3, the Egyptian army ousted Islamist-president Mohamed Morsi from power, suspended constitution and asked the head of the Constitutional Court to head the country during a transitional period.
On July 26, Egypt's court made a decision to arrest Morsi for 15 days within the ongoing investigation. The court accused Morsi of cooperation with Hamas as well as the escape from prison during the revolution in 2011.
