If the facts surrounding the killing of civilians with chemical weapon in Syria are proven, the international community should react to this, according to a message from the Turkish Foreign Ministry posted on its official website on Wednesday.

"If the use of chemical weapons in Syria is proven, this will be considered as a crime against humanity. Ankara calls for an immediate investigation of information about the use of chemical weapons," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.

The Syrian opposition stated that at least 635 people were killed as a result of a chemical attack against civilians in Syria. There is also information about hundreds of injured.

Chemical attack took place when UN inspectors were in the country to investigate such cases of chemical attacks.

Clashes between government forces and armed opposition have been continuing in Syria for more than two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is more than 100,000 people. The Syrian authorities say they are being opposed by well-armed militants.
