Despite the fact that coalition forces show uncertainty over a military intervention in Syria, the operation is simply inevitable given the current circumstances, Syrian expert Faisal Attasi told Trend.
"It may seem that in recent times, the West, especially European countries are against a military operation in Syria. However, in reality, the situation in Syria will just compel coalition forces to begin a military operation," the expert said.
Calling for Damascus to hand over chemical weapons to international control is nothing but an attempt to gain time, Attasi said.
Even if Damascus stays true to its word and hands over its chemical weapons to international control, this doesn't mean that the crisis will be resolved, the expert noted.
According to him, handing over chemical weapons to international control doesn't give guarantees that the Syrian regime will not take other provocations and military action against civilians.
The situation in Syria, strained by the use of chemical weapons, will not resolve itself. Sooner or later, coalition forces will be obliged to start an intervention in Syria," Attasi said.
Some Western countries, as well as Turkey have already supported intervention in Syria following another escalation of the situation there. On August 21, Media outlets reported on a large-scale deployment of chemical weapons near Damascus by Syrian Government Troops. Over 600 people were the victims of the attack.
Earlier, the US president declared that the use of chemical weapon is a "red line" for the Assad regime. Media outlets reported on the preparation of the Navy and Air Force of these countries to begin intervention.
The clashes between the government forces and armed opposition have been continuing in Syria for over two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is more than 100,000 people. The Syrian authorities say that they are opposed by well-armed militants.
