A system allowing anyone to observe the voting process at the ongoing election has been created in Azerbaijan, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov told journalists on Friday during a visit to the web camera technical control centre, established at the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC).

Thanks to the cameras installed at polling stations, there is a possibility to monitor activity during voting, the minister said.

"I think that the importance attached by the CEC to information and communication technologies with regard to the upcoming presidential election has a goal to increase the transparency of the electoral process. Sometimes observers express their opinions about the transparency of the elections. Installation of these cameras will help to resolve them," Abbasov said.

The minister went on to add that the installation of web cameras at 1000 polling stations, creation of special networks and transmission of information to the population in real-time via internet lead to an increase of transparency of the electoral process.

The presidential election in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9. The previous one was held on October 15, 2008.

Azerbaijan holds a presidential election every five years.
