Azerbaijan, Baku, October 16/Trend, R.Hafizoglu/

Iran shouldn't play a key role in the settlement of the Syrian crisis, Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the UN, Abdullah Al-Muallimi said, Al Arabiya TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to the ambassador, Iran should stop supporting Bashar Al-Assad's regime and 'other bands fighting the opposition'.

He also stressed that Iran interferes in the internal affairs of Arab states by using the Hezbollah terrorist organisation.

Earlier, leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah declared his intention to continue to support the Syrian authorities in the fight against the rebels. Immediately after, the Syrian opposition members fired at the Shiite neighbourhoods of Beirut, and promised to strike at other targets in Lebanon.

According to the report, the Syrian rebels placed demands on the Government of Lebanon to put an end to Hezbollah's activity in the battle against the opposition.

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman said that Hezbollah is a Lebanese resistance group and is not involved in the fighting in Syria.

During the conflict in Syria, which began in March 2011, over 115, 000 people were killed and over 4.2 million have become refugees in Syrian territory as well as two million have fled to neighbouring countries. The main burden of receiving refugees lay on Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey. The total population of Syria before the conflict amounted to 20 million.
