Bulgarian ex-president: EU should approach countries within Eastern Partnership

Azerbaijan, Baku, October 31/Trend, E.Aliyev/

The European Union (EU) should take an individual approach to each country in order to form genuinely solid, strategic relations with eastern partners such as Azerbaijan, former Bulgarian president Georgi Parvanov said while speaking at the Third Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

"In the coming days, the EU will hold discussions on the topic of assessment and continuation of Eastern Partnership policy. I believe that European Eastern policy should make an individual approach to each country. I hope that Europe will be wise and high-spirited enough to adopt such a decision," the ex-president said.

According to him, under the conditions when in recent years everything related to the implementation of the South Gas Corridor and Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), has concentrated on energy security, not the development of mutual trade, but the development of mutual investment has moved to the foreground.

The Bulgarian ex-president congratulated Ilham Aliyev on his confident victory in the presidential election. According to him, this victory demonstrates the nation's support to the modernisation policy pursued by the Azerbaijani president.

The Third Baku International Humanitarian Forum began at the Heydar Aliyev Centre on Thursday.
