Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 9
By Sabina Ahmadova - Trend:
Cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan is bearing fruit, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, Stefan Fule said on Monday in Brussels, speaking at the 14th meeting of EU-Azerbaijan Cooperation Council.
"We are glad to see Azerbaijan and the EU moving closer to each other," Fule said.
Referring to the signing of an agreement on visa facilitation in Vilnius, Fule noted that this will boost contact between people.
The EU intends to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan at all levels, according to Fule.
"We would like to accelerate the pace of the negotiations on association. And in this regard we encourage Azerbaijan to intensify its work towards WTO accession," the European commissioner said.
He believes that another essential element in the relations between the EU and Azerbaijan is the respect for fundamental freedoms. Fule called on Azerbaijan to fulfill its commitments in this area.
He also added that Azerbaijan can count on the support of the EU.
"We are committed to deepening our frank and open dialogue," Fule stressed.
