EU welcomes agreement on settlement of crisis in Ukraine

The European Union welcomes the signing of an agreement on the settlement of the crisis in Ukraine and the authorities and the opposition returning to a political dialogue, Ukrinform reported.

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy said this in a statement on Friday, a Ukrinform correspondent in Brussels reported.

"I welcome the agreement reached between the government and the opposition in Ukraine. The agreement is a necessary compromise in order to launch an indispensable political dialogue that offers the only democratic and peaceful way out of the crisis that has already caused too much suffering and bloodshed on all sides," he said.

Rompuy said he was confident that it was now the responsibility of all parties to be courageous and turn words into deeds for the sake of Ukraine's future.

As reported, on February 21 in Kyiv the Ukrainian president and opposition leaders, through the mediation of the foreign ministers of Germany, Poland and the French Foreign Ministry, signed an agreement on the settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.
