Baku, Azerbaijan, April 21
By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:
Some individuals in the Musavat party hamper holding a congress in this party, former deputy head of Musavat party, political analyst Habil Huseynli told Trend on April 21.
"If the congress is a requirement of the statute, it must be held," he said. "Especially, a place will be allotted for this. But the issue is exaggerated at a republican level."
He believes this approach is wrong.
"This issue can not have an impact on the political processes in the country," he said.
"There are people who benefit from this situation," he said. "They intend to turn it into an element of political struggle."
"The groups are struggling within the Musavat party to achieve some goals," he said. "Thus, the party can not hold a congress because of this struggle."
"The congress can be held only after a position of one of these groups prevails within the party," he said.
A congress of the Musavat party is scheduled for May 24. A new head will be elected. The current head of the party Isa Gambar said that he would not nominate his candidacy for the post.
