EP head’s criticism against Azerbaijan has no grounds
Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 28
By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:
The criticism by the European Parliament President Martin Schulz against Azerbaijan is groundless, the speaker of Azerbaijan's parliament the Milli Majlis, Ogtay Asadov said Nov. 28.
He made the remarks at a plenary session of the parliament.
Asadov said the European Parliament's leadership must first pay attention to anti-semitism, discrimination against migrants, and police arbitrariness in the countries of the EU.
"There are only a few Muslim countries in Europe, and they are constantly criticized," Asadov said.
Asadov noted that Schulz says he allegedly appealed to the Azerbaijani state about the arrival of a parliamentary group to the country, to deal with the issue of Leyla Yunusova, the head of an Azerbaijani NGO.
"But this is an obvious lie! No one appealed on this issue to the Milli Majlis, or the government of Azerbaijan. According to our information, they were not even able to create such a group," the speaker said.
"A lie at a meeting of such an influential organization as the European Parliament gives no credit to any politician," Asadov stressed.
"We will treat them as they treat us," he said.
