Baku, Azerbaijan, Aug. 6
Trend:
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan has published a list of media outlets that will allocate free airtime and column space for campaigns on the eve of the Sept. 26 referendum.
Earlier, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev signed an order to hold a referendum Sept. 26 on making amendments to the country’s constitution.
Free airtime and column space will be allocated by Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, the ‘Azerbaijan’ newspaper, the ‘People’s Newspaper’, and the ‘Baku Worker’ newspaper for the groups of 40,000 people or over to carry out campaigns for or against the amendments to Azerbaijan’s constitution.
In case if the above-mentioned outlets, as well as other TV and radio broadcasting organizations or editorial boards of periodicals decide to allocate paid airtime or column space for a campaign, they should send a corresponding notification to the CEC.
At the same time, they must report on the amount of payment for airtime and column space no later than 30 days after official announcement about the decision to hold the referendum.
