Nearly 900 Azerbaijani nationals joined terrorist organizations in Syria, Iraq and other countries as of today, said Head of the Azerbaijan’s State Security Service Lieutenant-General Madat Guliyev.
He made the remarks addressing the conference titled “The role of the youth in fight against terrorism, extremism and radicalism” in Baku on March 3.
Guliyev said that according to the obtained data, most of those Azerbaijanis were killed.
He added that 84 of them returned to Azerbaijan and were brought to criminal responsibility.
Over the past year, 54 people were deprived of the citizenship of Azerbaijan due to such actions, said Guliyev.
