BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 31
Trend:
Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district, liberated from the Armenian occupation, is being comprehensively reconstructed and restored, Azerbaijani MP Azer Badamov told Trend on May 31.
According to Badamov, modern social infrastructure is being created here, cities and villages are being built within smart concepts, modern production sites are being formed, taking into account the geographical location and economic potential.
The industry park, the foundation of which was laid on May 28 as part of the trip of President Ilham Aliyev to the Aghdam district, will, first of all, play an important role in the employment of Aghdam residents who will return to their lands, he said.
"In accordance with the approved general plan, the city of Aghdam is designed for a population of 100,000 people. This means that the city will have great industrial potential and will take an important place in the country's economy,” the MP noted.
“The decree signed by the head of state on the creation of Aghdam Industrial Park states that the territory for the park shall have the necessary infrastructure and management structures for carrying out entrepreneurial activities, used for the production, processing (recycling) and sale of competitive products,” he further said. “Besides, the territory shall be used for the provision of services in the industrial sector through the introduction of modern technologies, contributing to the efficient operation and development of entrepreneurs.”
“Thus, the future industry park will be multi-profile. It’s planned to turn it into a logistics hub, in which, given the geography of Aghdam, various production enterprises will be concentrated. In Soviet times the city had been famous for its wines. Vineyards will be planted in the city, and areas for the processing of grown grapes can be created in the industry park,” Badamov noted.
“Aghdam wine, which has a special taste, can be promoted and exported. In general, the future of the economy is based on industrial parks and agricultural parks, because the concentration of various production sites in one place is much more profitable in terms of providing infrastructure and labor,” the MP added.
“Moreover, the location of the Agdam Industry Park on the international transport corridor will create good opportunities for transporting products manufactured on its territory to markets," concluded the MP.
The decree on creating the Industry Park was signed by the Azerbaijani president on May 28, 2021.
Aghdam district had been liberated from Armenian occupation as a result of the Second Karabakh war from late Sept. to early Nov.2020.
