Azerbaijan takes crucial steps to restore liberated territories - Azernews

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.13

Trend:

An article, published on September 14-16 issue of Azernews online newspaper, describes the important steps taken to restore Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from Armenian occupation [in the 2020 second Karabakh war], Trend reports.

Azerbaijan, having liberated its internationally recognized territories from the Armenian occupation, demonstrated to the whole world a reality that seemed like a dream a year ago, the article said.

According to the article, in early September 2021, Azerbaijan marked another historic day. The plane ‘Karabakh’ of Azerbaijani Airlines has landed at the new Fuzuli International Airport. This event has become another symbol of the Great Return to the Karabakh region.

The article also details the construction of roads in Karabakh as one of the factors that will ensure the Great Return.

Besides, organizing trips for Azerbaijani citizens to their native lands after decades of separation is another step contributing to the Great Return, added the article.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war [the first Karabakh war], Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations.

Following over a month of military action to liberate its territories from Armenian occupation from late Sept. to early Nov. 2020, Azerbaijan has pushed Armenia to sign the surrender document. A joint statement on the matter was made by the Azerbaijani president, Armenia's PM, and the president of Russia.

A complete ceasefire and a cessation of all hostilities in the zone of the Karabakh conflict were introduced on Nov. 10, 2020.
