BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. The 5th anniversary of Gunnut Operation carried out by the order of the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev is being marked in the country, Trend reports.
As a result of the operation carried out by the Nakhchivan Combined Arms Army on May 20-27, 2018, Gunnut village of the Sharur district, the Aghbulagh hill, Gizilgaya and Garagaya peaks were liberated from Armenian occupation, and Arpa (Daralayaz) village came under the control of the Azerbaijani army.
In total, following the clashes, 11,000 hectares of territory were liberated. This operation allowed the Azerbaijani Armed Forces to take control of the Irevan-Yeghegnadzor-Gorus-Lachin-Khankendi highway.
Owing to liberation of Gunnut village and adjacent 11,000 hectares of territory favorable positions along the state border were taken. During the military operations, a serviceman of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces Adil Tatarov became a martyr.
As a part of the media tour, organized by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, Trend TV correspondents visited the site of the Gunnut operation in Nakhchivan. The correspondents left the main road and moved in military vehicles towards the liberated Gunnut village.
A road leading to the village was built. The correspondents moved forward, passing the checkpoints set up by Azerbaijani soldiers on the main heights, and arrived at the village to the positions created by Azerbaijani military personnel. There are all the necessary conditions for the living and service of soldiers, the provision of food is also at a high level.
The special forces of the Nakhchivan Combined Arms Army, who participated in the Gunnut operation, spoke about the clashes which took place there, and shared new details of the successful operation.
