BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. Azerbaijani Parliament's Chairperson (Speaker) Sahiba Gafarova has met with participants of the third Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) dialogue is being held in Baku on the topic "The results of the Global Summit on the SDGs 2023 and the role of the Supreme Financial Control Bodies in the implementation of the SDGs", Trend reports.

The speaker pointed out that the event held in Baku was dedicated to the pressing topic of "The role of Supreme Financial Control Bodies in the implementation of the SDGs" and expressed confidence that it will contribute to both the realization of Sustainable Development Goals and the strengthening of cooperation between auditing organizations.

She said that the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" and the SDGs adopted by the UN in 2015 are vital tools intended for sustainable socio-economic development and solving the challenges faced by countries systematically.

Gafarova noted that Azerbaijan is consistently working on implementation of the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development". In this context, the speaker reminded that Azerbaijan is the first in its region and one of the first 12 countries globally to submit three voluntary national review reports to UN, and the parliament is making necessary legislative changes to achieve the SDGs.

Besides, she highlighted that cooperation among auditing structures, as organized in the format of the dialogue held in Baku, is particularly relevant and important for the targeted use of public funds in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as for enhancing transparency and accountability.

Gafarova highly praised the work of the Chamber of Accounts of Azerbaijan and its cooperation with the parliament.

The speaker also noted that extensive restoration efforts, including projects for "smart cities" and "smart villages", and the construction of the third airport (in Lachin district) which is nearing completion, in the areas liberated from Armenian occupation.

She added that these processes are closely related to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.

During the meeting, the Chairpersons of the Supreme Audit Institutions of Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan, Brazil, and Belarus - Metin Yener, Almazbek Akmatov, Walton Alencar Rodrigues, and Dmitry Basko expressed their satisfaction with their visit to Azerbaijan.

They also thanked the Azerbaijani side for the high level of organization of the 3rd Supreme Audit Institutions' Dialogue.

It was also noted that the outcomes of such meetings and the exchange of experiences will be beneficial for the future work of audit institutions.

The Chair of the Chamber of Accounts of Azerbaijan Vugar Gulmammadov expressed gratitude for organizing the meeting and expressed confidence that the event held in Baku will make a valuable contribution to the implementation of SDGs.

The third SDG Dialogue focused on the trends of SDG financing in Azerbaijan, as well as the role of supreme audit institutions in monitoring the effectiveness of public spending for the SDGs.

The previous two SDG Dialogue events were held in November 2022 and in June this year.
