BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 16. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received the head of the International Organization for Migration's mission in the country, Troy Dooley, Trend reports.
According to the information, during the meeting, the head of the mission presented credentials to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
The minister wished Troy Dooley success in his activities. The meeting discussed prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the International Organization for Migration, as well as issues related to preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Azerbaijan this year.
Jeyhun Bayramov stressed Azerbaijan's close cooperation with the International Organization for Migration and the implementation of joint projects on improving legislation and institutions in the field of migration.
Referring to the former Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, the Minister recalled that as a result of the conflict, Azerbaijan faced a large-scale migration problem; about 1 million Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs from Armenia and the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Works on the return of IDPs are carried out in the post-conflict period.
Highlighting that Azerbaijan will host COP29 this year, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stressed the importance of cooperation in several spheres related to climate change, including in the field of migration.
Furthermore, it was brought to attention that Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate with the International Organization for Migration in this direction.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
