BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 8. The total amount of free airtime allocated for election campaigning in connection with the parliamentary election in Azerbaijan must be at least three hours per week, the country's Audio Visual Council Chairman Ismat Sattarov said, Trend reports.
He made the remark at today's meeting on the possibilities of equal election campaigning and the basics of the activities of media entities in the upcoming snap parliamentary election in Baku.
The official emphasized that the provided free airtime is distributed among registered candidates on equal terms and in equal volume.
“Free airtime for election campaigning should be allocated, taking into account that, in terms of airing time, it can reach a wider audience. The date and time of airing of election materials are determined by a draw conducted by the relevant election commission with the participation of representatives of the broadcaster.
Information about the place and time of the draw is officially published. The public broadcaster must reserve additional airtime for election campaigning on a paid basis," Sattarov added.
To note, on June 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree dissolving the sixth convocation of the Azerbaijani Parliament and scheduling a snap election for September 1.
