BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 7. A Senior Workshop on International Rules governing Military Operations (SWIRMO) jointly organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan was hosted in Baku, Trend reports.
High-ranking military officials from more than 70 countries have participated in the workshop, one of the ICRC's biggest events.
The seminar primarily takes place in countries with military experience that uphold the principles and norms of international humanitarian law. Azerbaijani military personnel will share their experiences during the seminar. Azerbaijan's adherence to international humanitarian law during the Second Karabakh War, subsequent military operations, and particularly localized anti-terrorism efforts has been exemplary, which is why the 17th edition of SWIRMO is being held in Azerbaijan.
The 17th edition presented reports on the history of the creation and current activities of the ICRC, military operations and law, integration of law, international humanitarian law (IHL), application of international humanitarian law in the Azerbaijani army, and other topics.
The current SWIRMO aims to enhance understanding of international rules governing military operations, examine challenges of practical application of IHL on the modern battlefield, and integrate IHL into military planning.
