“10,000 oil industry workers might be deprived of suffrage in the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan,” Mirvari Gahramanli, the head of the Committee on Protection of Oil Industry Workers, told Trend. According to Gahramanli, the Central Election Committee must think how oil industry workers, working on offshore piers, platforms, the fields Bahar’, Chirag’, Gum island, as well as Baku-Ceyhan terminal on voting day, will vote.

Gahramanli said that the workers, working on the objects, could not vote in the last parliamentary elections. The only way is to deliver ballot-boxes to the places.

Gahramanli noted that the workers will not be able to vote even if weather is fine. “They can not leave their post and go to the elections, as most of them work in shift,” she stressed.

According to Gahramanova, around 10,000 oil industry workers will work on 14 offshore platforms on voting day.
