Around 40 int'l organizations, public bodies invited to observe re-run parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan - CEC chair

The Central Elections Commission (CEC) has registered over 450 observers for monitoring the re-run-parliamentary elections due on 13 May 2006, Trend reports citing Mazahir Panahov, the chairman of the CEC, as stating to a workshop on 25 April.

He noted that the district constituency commissions have registered around 900 observers. Approximately 40 international organization public organizations of different world countries have been invited to carry out monitoring of the re-run parliamentary elections.

An only international organization which stated its will to conduct exit poll is the US International Institute of Republicans.

The head of the CEC also gave some recommendations to the chairmen of the constituency commissions to prevent interference into the electioneering of the senior ranking officials.
