US Army European Deputy Commander-in-Chief to Arrive in Baku

US Army European Deputy Commander-in-Chief William Ward are expected to arrive in Baku with a two-day visit on September 20, 2006, Jonathan Hanick, Chief of Public Relations Department of the American Embassy to Azerbaijan told Trend today.

According to him, that will be the first familiarization visit of General Ward to Azerbaijan. The program of the visit includes his meetings with Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. The Americam general is expected to meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev as well. Issues on the current military cooperation between the two countries and its perspectives will be discussed during the meetings.

Notably that General Word comes to Baku from Tbilisi. The agreement on implementation of the second stage of the Georgian-American military program Stability Support was signed as a result of the negotiations being held in the Georgian Defense Office. The agreement envisages training the first and the second brigades of Georgia`s Air Force. US Government allocated $40 m. for these aims.
