Azerbaijani Opposition Party Appeal to Interior Ministry

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S.Ilhamgizi / Igbal Agazade, the Chairman of the Umid party, stated that Umid had sent a letter of protest to the Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan, a South Caucasus country, international organizations and all the foreign embassies accredited in Azerbaijan.

Police from Baku Police Precinct 37 disrupted a second conference of the party held in Baku on May 6, 2007. Police explained their actions without providing the appropriate authorization by the Baku City Executive Power. Agazade stated that the party planned to lodge a complaint to the Police Precinct 37 regarding the illegal intervention into the party's affairs.

Azerbaijan is the member of the International Convention and the violation of the regulations of this organization, particularly the rights of the party members, will be further discussed at the international organization.

The opposition party Umid was founded in 1993 and the National Unity Party joined in 2002.
