Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / Ali Aliyev, the co-founder of Azadlyg block and Chairman of the Citizen and Development Party of Azerbaijan (CDP), stated that the opposition block Azadlyg has made a decision to join the Memorandum on Co-operation of political parties, which was developed by the Open Society Party of Azerbaijan (OSP).

OSP will hold a national forum with the participation of political opposition forces on 25 May. The Memorandum of Intentions for the co-operation of political parties will be signed at this forum.

The Azadlyg Block Council of Chairs discussed this issue during the meeting held on 23 May in which the chairman of Azadlyg made the decision to sign the Memorandum.

According to Aliyev, the Memorandum envisages a joint fight of political parties to protect democracy, human rights and freedom of speech. This document does not place any liability on the parties.

Aliyev stressed that if the Election Commission employs the same staff used previously and the pressure on freedom of speech continues, Azadlyg will boycott the forthcoming elections.

Azadlyg unites three opposition parties, namely the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFP led by Ali Karimli, the chairman), the Liberal Party of Azerbaijan (LPA led by Lala Shovkat) and the Citizen and Development Party of Azerbaijan (CDP).
