Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Arif Rahimzade, the Chairman of the Permanent Parliamentary Commission on regional issues of the Milli Majlis [Azerbaijan Parliament], stated at the Republican Meeting of Municipalities that the Azerbaijani municipalities face pressure by some executive bodies.
The interference of executive bodies in the activities of self-governing bodies contradicts the state concept of municipalities, Rahimzade stated. He noted the necessity of preventing this pressure on municipalities by the Executive Power.
The Permanent Parliamentary Commission on Regional Issues is developing a draft law envisaging the improvement of municipal employee welfare, Rahimzade stressed. The bill will be submitted to the Parliament's autumn session.
Some AZM 4.9mln in taxes was collected from the lands under the balance of municipalities in 2005 and AZM 5.1mln in 2006, according to Rahimzade.
