Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend E.Huseynli / The Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, Zakir Garalov, briefed the media on 30 August that high-ranking officials may be detained in connection to the collapse of the newly constructed sixteen-storey building in Baku.
"During investigations, high-ranking officials who gave illegal permits for the construction may be detained," Garalov said.
On 28 August at around 5pm, the sixteen-storey building constructed by the company 'Mutafakkir' in Mammad Nakchivani street collapsed. According to the initial version, the building collapsed due to grave violations in the safety regulations during construction. According to the official data, the number of dead workers pulled from the rubble has reached thirteen.
Four people, including the head of the construction company 'Mutafekkir', Ali Muradov, and other three employees have been detained regarding their involvement in the incident.
According to the Prosecutor General, the inspection revealed that the construction materials were of poor quality, and contracts had not been finalized with workers whose salaries were paid daily.
