Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / A mistake made by the Encyclopedia Britannica regarding a Azerbaijani composer was corrected, Hazar Ibrahim, the Foreign Ministry's press-secretary reported on 3 September.
The Encyclopedia Britannica state on their website that the great Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev was an Armenian composer.
The mistake was corrected on the website of the encyclopedia after the Azerbaijani Embassy to the US contacted corresponding organizations of Great Britain.
Gara Abulfazoglu Garayev was born in Baku on 5 February 1918. In 1935 Garayev entered the Azerbaijani Conservatory.
Garayev's first works was 'Hert's music'.
Garayev became a student of the Moscow Conservatory in 1938. Dmitri Dmitrevich Shostakovich was Garayev's teacher.
